The black spots on my brain made me forget. The black spots on my lungs, I truly regret. The storm made its way to challenge the cliffs. There's never enough time to prepare for this. These days my throat is as raw as the long winter months. Your anger burned as bright as the light of a dozen suns. Since no one reads the liner notes of our records, The wolf's not dressed as the sheep, it's the shepherd. There should be no shame regarding this failure, A smooth sea never made a skilled a sailor.

“In threadbare clothes, they refused my advice.” It was rude – but concise, if mostly devoid of life. We couldn't swell our lungs the dread held us so tight. That wasn't for us, you were speaking with the night. “I always wanted to be your rock, but I only ever dragged you down.” The silky smoke swirled in front of the stars. When will you come around? You remain unphased by the sound. A metaphorical fog can make our thoughts disappear. The gloom has a way of shaping things that you fear “Listen kid, I swear, just stop, it couldn't be real.” Left to your own devices, you seem awfully even-keeled. Gasp. These punctured old bellows yearn to scream. Exhale. Do you see what I see? “It feels a little self-important but, is yes a relief?” What's the darkest place that you've been? What's the gravest sin you ever committed? Maybe words are wind. But wind can still blow down the oak atop a mountain. What's the darkest place that you've been? What's the gravest sin you ever committed?

False Peak 01:05
They say the moss only grows on the north side of the trees, but I've seen that same moss grow on the south and the west and the east. Hell's not a place that you go, it's a thought that you keep. The trail is uncertain but you could still reach a peak. It's night – or it's dusk – my mind has weakened with rust, the wind tried to steal your words, but I heard: “I laugh, sometimes in secret. I cry, but that secret, I think that I'll keep it.” There was a deep crimson sky that we didn't even try to remember. Those frigid fickle fingers force a trail down my page, they were cracked, torn and yellow, they were well worn with age: if I had to guess I guess I'd say, you better keep me locked inside these forest cliches. There was a deep crimson sky that we didn't even try to remember. That was a deep crimson sky that we didn't even try to recall.

13 Falls 00:56
“You're well-versed in worry.” Is that something people say? What a pleasure to be here where it's calm and see trouble from so far away. There's rain in the woods, you can hear its creeping tiptoe. You promised you wouldn't say it. “That promise was complicated.” The cave called back but the echo fell flat. A tepid response was the suggestion of that. “Searching for a single shadow in all of that darkness?” There aren't enough drinks here to make me that honest.

Cold Moon 01:19
My hands are blue from the cold. My cheeks are red from the sip. My thoughts are emptier than I care to admit. Thoroughly consider this bleak thought from Thoreau: “Any fool can make a rule and any fool will mind it.” It didn't leave a mark, that was my December attitude. It didn't leave a scar, but that's not what these things do. We're always reaching for the notes we can't hit. You said, “Never has a sky been so blue.” There's a candor in your voice that connects me to you. All that good will evaporated like dew. There's honesty in things you have to say goodbye to. It's not what you take, it's what you leave behind For us it was nothing, from the years of decline. You held a burning torch, inflamed by remorse. You made your point and you strutted like a conqueror A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prophecy. You see? Never look for an answer when it's the question you seek See the cat? See the cradle? See the ragged rim of oblivion.

Long Trail 00:53
Pull the floorboards up, there are skeletons beneath. Under every well-built foundation there are things you can't see. The preacher said to you – Stained-pine coffin laid in dew: “Bring me the deep peace of the cold New England soil. Bring me the confidence of youth. Bring me solemnity of age.” Let me sleep beneath the mountain. Cover up my blue Northeastern truth.

He placed his drink on the bar, an appliance to his throat, with arms like old naval rope, he exhaled a bit of hope and the man with the trachea device said, “It was always in the inflection.” We pause for a moment and smile. The snow drifts outside said we'd be here for awhile. With no place to go and no one to see, I thought I owed this stranger a moment of my company. “You do me a kindness,” he said over the clink Of a well-worn drinking glass. He looked past the bar and then back at me, with a mechanical cadence he spoke up slowly: “Like any good kid raised in the woods knows: It's not when the sound comes but when it goes.” Did you feel an icy chill at your neck? You begin to wonder if you've looked over your shoulder yet. With a wink and a nod, he slowly ambled off, but at the door he gave pause. “Yeah, I've thought about it before. Of course I've thought about it before.” And we both knew what he meant.
